Nutter of the week...

This blog has got to be a spoof. I mean the writer is obviously sending up the more extreme loonies in society, no-one could publish that seriously, surely!

Concern yourself no more...

Alcohol Concerns call to criminalise parents for introducing their children to drink have been blown out of the water by a study by Liverpool John Moores University.

The study shows that the common sense view on giving children alcohol actually works. If you introduce children to alcohol at an early age in a family environment, they are less likely to go off in secret and abuse it.

A cause for concern?

We'd like to highlight pressure group masquerading as agency "Alcohol Concern".

Yesterday they were in the news because of their proposals that parents who allow their children to drink small amounts of alcohol be criminalised. This has been reacted to with derision in many quarters, as it goes against the evidence of the continental model where there are fewer alcohol problems, and yet young people drinking is a normal part of life.

Surely children who are brought up to appreciate beer or wine are less likely to want to drink the sort of alcopops that are designed to make the consumption of alcohol as easy as possible?

Bullying

Patrick Mercer is an idiot who condoned racism.

That said the backlash has unearthed a deeply troubling vein in British political life. In condemning Mercer many parties focused on him giving equivalence between different forms of abuse. Many people, their views clouded by bigotry and history, are furious at the suggestion that the level of abuse is not necessarily determined by its target.

Many sickos seem to be suggesting that bullying is not a problem if you are not part of a minority group. A small ginger child was told by politicians that the bullying he was suffering at school was OK because he wasn't black. What planet are these idiots on???

Non-nutters agree that bullying and abuse is bad, whoever is suffering the bullying.

"Let your children watch it"

David Stephenson seems to be suffering a sense of humour malfunction.

In an article about post-watershed drama Torchwood, designed sepcifically to do the sorts of stories Doctor Who can't, they quote the BBC saying:
"Before each episode, a warning will be broadcast alerting viewers to the fact that the show contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature. Armed with this information, the onus will be on parents to assess its suitability for their children."

Now the Express would surely be among the first to complain about the nanny state, but somehow their reporter manages to twist "Parents are responsible for deciding what they let their children watch, not us" to "You should Let your children watch Torchwood."

Mr Stephenson wins a "Nutter of the Week" award.

Pickled in aspic

Nutters of the week are the people behind the Association of British Counties.
ABC contends that Britain needs a fixed popular geography, one divorced from the ever changing names and areas of local government but, instead, one rooted in history, public understanding and commonly held notions of cultural identity.

In other words boundaries should be rigid, set in concrete and never changed and based on some arbitrary point about 50 or 60 years ago.

Why stop there? Why not abolish England and go back to the ancient British kingdoms of Wessex, Mercia and the like?

Things change. Deal with it.
