Pickled in aspic

Nutters of the week are the people behind the Association of British Counties.
ABC contends that Britain needs a fixed popular geography, one divorced from the ever changing names and areas of local government but, instead, one rooted in history, public understanding and commonly held notions of cultural identity.

In other words boundaries should be rigid, set in concrete and never changed and based on some arbitrary point about 50 or 60 years ago.

Why stop there? Why not abolish England and go back to the ancient British kingdoms of Wessex, Mercia and the like?

Things change. Deal with it.
